The Swiss painter Robert Zünd, born in Lucerne in 1827 and died there in 1909, was a student of the Swiss landscape painter Alexandre Calame. From him he learned the art of magnificent depictions of nature, which he made into atmospheric landscape paintings with biblical staffage on his subjects.
