according to Pompeo Batoni (1708-1787), Picture, approx. 72 x 36 cm, 37 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin with petit-point-section
Pompeo Batoni (1708-1787) lived and died in Rome. He was a great portrait painter of his time and it is said that he probably painted portraits of all the rulers who came to Rome. In contrast to the bombastic exaggeration of the time, his painting style was completely natural and without any idealization of the persons he painted. The painting we reproduced, "The Penitent Magdalene", hung in the gallery in Dresden and unfortunately burned in 1945. After a reproduction we made our present embroidery.
