Wilhelm von Schadow was born in Berlin in 1788 and died in Düsseldorf in 1862. In 1808 the young Schadow received his first training as a painter at the Berlin Academy of Art. A. von Humboldt provided him with a 2-year scholarship to Italy. After his return he became professor at the Berlin Academy in 1819 and director of the Düsseldorf Academy in 1826, which he reorganized in a completely new and progressive way. We have taken one of his paintings "The children of the artist" as a suggestion for our embroidery.
