according to Godert de Wedige (1583-1641), Picture, approx. 36 x 44 cm, 28 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin
Godert de Wedige, born 1583 in Cologne and also died there in 1641, was actually a German painter. He gave up his civil name, Gotthard von Wedig, in favour of the Dutch, as was often customary at that time, when he joined the Cologne Guild in 1608. De Wedige first oriented himself towards the painter Geldorp Gortzius, who had been living in Cologne since 1579, but soon found his own style. The painting style and technique of the artist often allowed for confusion with other painters. Thus his work "Still Life with Candle" was for a long time attributed to the painter Lubin Baugin.
