according to Elisabeth-Louise Vigée-Lebrun (1755-1842), Picture, approx. 46 x 61 cm, 36 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin with petit-point-section
Mrs. Vigée-Lebrun created a total of 662 paintings, excluding portraits, the most famous being the painting of the monarch Marie-Antoinette (1779) and the painting of the artist with her daughter (1786). With the outbreak of the French Revolution she emigrated to Italy in 1789 and did not return to France until 1802. Her painting style still gives us today the impression of that refined, amiable but surviving society at the turn of the 18th/19th century.
