Picture Section according to Jan Davidsz de Heem (1606-1684), without cushion cover, embroidered area approx. 23,5 x 20,5 cm, 40 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin
The first signed and dated paintings by the Utrecht born painter date from 1624 and show plates filled with dessert fruit, which in their cool, clear setting reveal the influence of the Utrecht School. De Heem first found his own style in Antwerp. He painted still lifes of a voluptuousness that was unprecedented in Dutch art at the time. In addition to bouquets of flowers, fruit hangings and garden still lifes, he created depictions of overloaded but well composed breakfast tableaux depicting sea creatures, fruits, pies and other edibles. His works hang in Berlin ("Prunkstilleben mit Hummer", Orig.: "Breakfast table with lobster"), in The Hague and in Vienna.
