according to Jan van Huijsum (1682-1749), Picture, approx. 42 x 49 cm, 41 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin
Van Huijsum is considered the last important representative of the traditional Dutch fruit and flower painting. His still lifes, often painted on copper or mahogany and therefore in good condition, are characterised by an extremely careful design that captures the last detail. They are painted after nature in every detail.
Van Huijsum's thinly applied colours are unusually light. They are usually set against a light, cool background, like the painting "Flowers in a Vase" (1726, Wallace Collection, London). His paintings already achieved record prices during his lifetime.
