according to Meindert Hobbema (1638-1709), Picture, approx. 77 x 57 cm, 23 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin
The Dutchman Meindert Hobbema, born 1638 in Amsterdam, died there in 1709. Hobbema was a student of the great landscape painter Jacob van Ruisdael. We have little data from the early years of his work. His ever-recurring basic type is the landscape with groups of trees framing a fixed point. In contrast to Ruisdael's strong contrasts, Hobbema's paintings are quieter, more natural, more real.
