according to Otto Speckter (1807-1871), Picture, approx. 60 x 44 cm, 35 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin
Under the name Speckter we know the two brothers Erwin and Otto, two painters from Hamburg, of whom Otto painted the present picture "Kirchgang in Alt-Rahlstedt". Otto Speckter was born in 1807 and died in 1871. His main task was actually to illustrate books such as Andersen's Fairy Tales, Reuters Hanne Nüte etc.
The church of Alt-Rahlstedt was built between 1230-1240 and in its time was dominating the landscape of Stormarn at the gates of Hamburg. It contains the oldest bells that were delivered from Hamburg to Stormarn (1494). Detlev von Liliencron was also buried in 1909 in the nearby cemetery of this church, which lies in majestic silence in the landscape. Alt-Rahlstedt has long been incorporated into the Hamburg urban area.
