according to Francois Baron Gérard (1770-1837), Picture, approx. 40 x 55 cm, 35 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Gobelin with petit-point-section
The French painter François Gérard, born in Rome in 1770, died in Paris in 1837, was ennobled in 1814 and received the title of Baron. More important than his classicist history paintings are his portraits (over 250 known). Gérard was Napoleon's court painter and also painted at many European princely courts. Charming are the portrait sketches which he painted for himself after the executed paintings.
