according to Antonio Canova (1757- 1822), Picture, approx. 27 x 35 cm, 10 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, petit point
The Italian sculptor Antonio Canova was born in Passagno in 1757. He began his work in his grandfather's stonemasonry workshop and continued his training with a sculptor in Venice. As early as 1773 he came to prominence with his own works and presented his marble sculptures in a cool, classicist style, which were admired throughout Europe. During the Napoleonic period, during which he was twice in Paris, he created ideal portraits of Napoleon and his family. In gratitude for special services he was raised to marchese by the Pope. In 1822 he died in Venice.
